North Coast 500 - Scotland's new scenic route showcasing the fairy tale castles, beaches and ruins showcasing 500 miles of the best the North Highlands has to offer. The route starts in the northern city of Inverness, then weaves along the west coast to Applecross and then northwards towards the bustling towns of Torridon and Ullapool. From there, you’ll venture to some of the most northerly coastal points in Scotland, passing by Caithness and John O’Groats before heading south through Dingwall and finally back to Inverness.

There’s nothing quite like the freedom of the long open road, never-ending back roads, wide meandering paths and hidden trails through some of Scotland’s finest coastal scenery are just a few things you can expect on Scotland’s brand new tourist route. North Coast 500 is a haven of adventure, with hundreds of things to see and do, whether it be spotting dolphins, climbing mountains, tasting local delicacies or relaxing on the beach - there is something for everyone on the North Coast 500.  

Best Western Palace Hotel, Inverness

Set in a heritage-listed building, this waterfront hotel is next to Amalienborg Royal Palace and opposite Copenhagen Opera House. It offers a gourmet restaurant plus in-room tea/coffee making facilities and flat-screen TVs. 200 year-old pine beams, brickwork add charm to the hotel. DAY 2 - Mileage: 176 miles (3 hrs 30 mins)*

Breakfast at the hotel before departing for the journey to the start of the North Coast 500 in Inverness. Today’s attractions on route include: Edinburgh, Perth, the Cairngorms National Park and Loch Gorten Osprey Centre. Depending on time of arrival a visit to Inverness Castle before arriving at the Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel in Inverness late afternoon/early evening. Time to freshen up before dinner at the hotel.

 

DAY 3 - Mileage: 170 miles (4 hrs)*

Breakfast at the hotel before departing and starting your journey along the East Coast of the Highlands.

Today’s attractions on route include: Dalmore Distillery, “The Mermaid of the North” in Balintore, Glen Morangie Distillery, Pulteney Distillery, Noss Head, Girnigoe Castle, Stacks of Duncansby, John O’Groats, Castle of Mey, Dunnet Head & Dunnet Bay.  Arrival at the Bettyhill Hotel near Thurso late afternoon/early evening with time to freshen up before dinner in the hotel.

 

DAY 4 - Mileage 94 miles (2 hrs 45 mins)*

Breakfast at the hotel before departing and continuing your journey around the North coast of Scotland. Today’s attractions en route include: Ben Loyal, Cape Wrath, Handa Island & the Drumbeg Viewpoint. Arrival at the Inver Lodge Hotel in Lochinver late afternoon/early evening with time to freshen up before dinner in the hotel.

 

DAY 5 - Mileage: 102 miles (2 hrs 35 mins)*

Breakfast at the hotel before departing and continuing your journey down the West Coast of Scotland. Today’s attractions on route include: Ardessie Waterfalls, Gairloch Marine Life Centre, Hebridean Whale Cruise, Inerewe Garden & the Loch Maree Islands National Nature Reserve. Arrival at the Myrtle Bank hotel, Gairloch late afternoon/early evening with time to freshen up before dinner in the hotel.

 

DAY 6 - Mileage:  125 miles (3 hrs 30 mins)*

Breakfast at the hotel before departing and starting the final leg of the North Coast 500 back into Inverness. Today’s attractions on route include: Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, Bealach na Ba drive to Applecross & the Rogie Falls. Arrival at the Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel in Inverness late afternoon/early evening with time to freshen up before dinner in the hotel.

 

DAY 7 - Mileage: 160 miles (4 hrs)*

Breakfast at the hotel before departing and heading south to the final hotel on Loch Lomond.

Today’s attractions en route include: Loch Ness, Fort William, Glencoe Mountain range, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park, Dumbarton Castle, Balloch Castle, Glengoyne Distillery, Auchentoshan Distillery. Arrival at the Winnock Hotel, Loch Lomond late afternoon/early evening with time to freshen up before dinner in the hotel.

 

DAY 8 - Breakfast at the hotel before departing and heading home.

The Winnock Hotel, Loch Lomond

Situated in the heart of Loch Lomond National Park, Winnock Hotel is set in an 18th-century building and features an on-site bar and a restaurant serving British cuisine. Public parking facilities are available free of charge. Rooms are decorated with warm tones and they are all equipped with a TV with satellite channels. Each room comprises a private bathroom fitted with a shower. Some rooms also boast a private balcony and four-poster beds.
